Beef TV Series Season 1 Review
Episode 1:"The Birds Don't Sing, They Screech in Pain"
Storyline
The hectic cat-and-mouse game finally comes to an end when Amy almost rear ends Danny’s truck. she returns to her splendid home, and we meet George--her husband. Jordana has taken her to the new flagship store and home for dinner. Amy is sick of the countless calls and get-togethers that she has had to endure over the past two years only to receive no offers. Before you can finish speaking,dd George interrupts or Her should be focusing on what's positive here; he says they need their gratitude journals back again.
One daughter, Junie; and Amy is currently bidding her plant art store to Forsters.
On that day, Danny lives with his brother Paul and curses about the guy he got into a beef with. He also states that he is fed up with the world and its changing times, quickly revealing the fundamental existential crisis they want to bring out about our burnt-up generation of workers. His parents hope he will meet a good Korean girl and get married. When Danny learns that the money Paul is gambling in crypto, he scolds his brother.
Their parents lost the motel they ran and Danny had to start his own business as a contractor. It was lost due to Isaac, their cousin--he had been running a racket at the motel where he sold counterfeit baby powder formula.
Mia works at Kōyōhaus, Amy's store. George's father, Haru Nakai, was once a great artist. And Mia and Danny had studied his works in college. Keeping a smiling face for Mia and another customer, who wants his picture taken. It seems that Amy is in the same place mentally as Danny. Danny turns out to be more of a handy man than an actual contractor; he can't really do big-scale and complex projects.
George’s mother Fumi is also critical of Junie's artwork. But she is still young, and Fumi wants her to have a real teacher. Because Junie has anxiety and needs to paint, Amy doesn't want to put pressure on her. There is definitely some tension between them. Danny encounters Isaac, and asks him for cash. Isaac gets a little tense, but agrees. While cutting branches on a tall tree, Danny almost falls off because he suddenly sees honking and even an identical car to Amy's. After that the employer fires him. Danny is hanging midair from a tree firing off sentences when he sees for sale signs with overpriced mushrooms on them. Danny plans to buy back the motel with Isaac's money. He had invested the money through Paul’s crypto account. Green all day, though; suddenly it crashed!
Finally Jordana relieves the tension in Amy and says they are preparing an offer for Kōyōhaus. Later that evening, Amy is shocked to find someone has posted a video of her and Danny’s road rage online. However, no one can see the car plates. She can't sleep and attempts to open George’s locker, but is unable. When June screams, she calms her down. She recalls the day that June was born, and how happy Amy was then. she cries wanting to return to that place where nothing more was important than just being with June and at peace.
Danny cannot succeed in suicide with carbon monoxide - he keeps stopping between stops. He doesn't, however; he looks up the number plate.
The following morning Amy mentions opening the safe. She says she should have it figured out, but George doesn't agree with her. She doesn't know it, but Danny has tracked down the address and is heading in their direction. In any case, Amy opens the safe before Danny is almost there. Playing sexually with the gun, she turns on and her orgasm is shattered by Danny who says he has seen a problem with the house.
He mentions remodeling and she perks up, opening the door. She invites him in to see if she can get the roof problem fixed. He also asks to see her garage. When he mentions warp, she says “there’s always something”, exactly the phrase Danny had been using all episode. They see similarities between each other, but when Danny asks about the car Amy says she drives it; and at that point Danny says he'd like to drive it.
She observes that he has urinated all over it, and Amy chases after him but she cannot catch up. She takes down his number plate and smiles viciously.
Episode 1 :"The Birds Don't Sing, They Screech in Pain" Review
Episode 1 of Beef is just the kind of madness you'd expect from A24 and more. Despite the unstrangeness of the plot, Beef has a tale to tell--it's just not very odd.
Ali Wong and Steve Yeun are both portraying archetypes, but they don't look out of place at all. Basically, they're just the same old guy who is fed up with the world and wants to be accepted. However, next week we will see how Amy (Wong) goes about getting even with Danny (Yeun).
In the second episode of Beef, Amy is really mad at Danny. She returns angrily inside and comments to him under her breath. In this moment she truly looks crazy and quite dangerous. Before Amy cleans the mess, she calls Danny and threatens him. Naturally, he doesn't take her seriously. She shouts at her phone and keeps a gun pointed on it as George walks in.
Danny cooks steak at his house with Paul. His plan for success is three 10x crypto trades, and Danny isn't impressed. George turns over the bathroom clean to check with Amy if she made a misstep that disturbed Danny in any way. While Amy goes on posting bad Yelp reviews for Danny’s service, she is angry that he doesn't support her. She shakes George up by mentioning that Danny said he didn’t like Japanese.
They therefore go to his house together where they meet the old motel owner who has replaced the Cho family. Danny says the repayment to Isaac will be delayed, but in return he asks for title of Danny’s truck. This time round, Isaac has brought laptop batteries from Busan to sell there but says their dealings are on the up-and-up.
Because Amy's reviews have badly damaged his past business, Danny suggests starting a new contracting firm partnered with Paul. June hits a teacher out of anger while the parents are staying too late. Amy calls over Naomi, who turns out to be Jordana's sister-in-law. Amy, who is absent from a meeting with Jordana because of June’s issue.
Naomi gives her suggestions on several things, and also shows Amy the road rage video that has gone wild. We learn that the Cho brothers go to Veronica's place for help, who turns out to be Danny’s ex-girlfriend. But help don't come with them and so she invites them to church.
Isaac tells Danny that George and Amy asked about him. By voicemail, Danny leaves a hilarious warning for Amy. She is entirely undisturbed and creates a bogus Instagram account to try winning over Danny. But as she uses Mia's photos, it seems odd that George has liked all her pictures. She gets a response from Paul: a topless selfie of him.The brothers visit Esther's home, whom Veronica recommended Paul believes Amy's fake profile is authentic, but Danny doesn’t.
Jordana becomes angry that George will not sell her the chair Fumi made and put on display. Amy believes this will interfere with her business dealing with Jordana, further adding to the underlying friction between them. Afterwards, of course they have a quarrel and give each other what-for. And she asks George about liking Mia's photos, too.
He raises the gun, and Amy tells George she was playing with herself. Vexed that all she ever does is work, and never gets time to spend at the house which was bought with her own money alone.
George’s father only left him chairs and tables, but no money. And Amy just wants someone to take care of her, not the other way round every time. Paul says that Danny's too uptight, living the life he did in restraint and by arbitrary rules. He leaves the conversation.
While Danny thinks about it, Paul continues to fiddle with his phone. After the exhibition, Amy leaves a voicemail to Danny telling him she can let it go. But then her tone turns threatening, and she warns him that he'll lose everything.
Christine yells at the truck driver to hurry up and Danny can read that I Can’t Drive pencilled in script on the rear door of her sister's husband's truck and is stunned. He pretends he doesn’t know what she means as Paul steps forward with his arms wrapped protectively around him but then suddenly shoves Steve away while pursing his lips tightly
Amy goes back home satisfied. Finding George, she suggests they go for couple’s therapy. Amy easily agrees, and they reaffirm each other's love. At the end of an episode, a drunk Danny comes up to their house holding a hammer in his hand one night.
Episode 2: "The Rapture of Being Alive" Review
Actually, Wong looks a bit more sinister and evil than Yeun. Actually, their bad chemistry is what gives the show its rhythmic pace. A little up, a little down Every scene has its own rise and fall that adds to the overall thematic value. From the writing to its delivery, thus far Beef has been thoroughly impressive.
Episode 2 introduced some engaging revelations about both the characters and universe. George turns out to have no legacy money, and perhaps even be cheating on Amy. Upbringing and attitude towards life were what made the difference between Amy and his outlook.
Paul and Danny are also distant enough from each other. They are two schools of thought but must remain fast friends to immerse themselves in this Amy typhoon. How will this see-saw be settled? Right now, it is even and there’s a lot to discuss.
